I've got eleven more pages to ink on the latest issue of Richy Vegas comics! The sequence in the restaurant where I have a psychotic episode in late October of 1985 contains some of the finest drawings I've ever done in this medium.
Although the drawings in issue 7 represent the best work I've done in years, the book overall remains as unviable in the market as all my other works. My books don't sell at Austin Books and I rarely make up the cost of tables, travel etc. that I lay out for a spot at conventions. Oh, did I mention the one book I've sold over the internet since that feature of my page went up two years ago? I will start on a new project that will no doubt get me nowhere as far as recognition or success in the market. I will at least try not to bring about a self-fulfilling prophecy by which I mean this: I will knock myself out to make a good piece of art and not let the overall sense of pessimism about its chances affect the quality of the work. The drawings in Richy Vegas comics show improvement since issue four came out in 2010. I hope to carry my improvements in my drawings over to my next project. I will use unfamiliar materials that may impede the quality of the work at first. There will be no deadline to start, but I might impose one as the work moves along. Issue 7 of Richy Vegas Comics will come in well before the January 1st deadline. Issue number 8, due at about this time next year, may contain as many as ninety pages.
